HIRTSHALS LEADS THE WAY IN SMART ENERGY MANAGEMENT
Using Port of Hirtshals as an energy laboratory, the EFFORT project has collected data from local businesses, forming the basis for analyses of energy consumption and usage patterns. This has provided a strong foundation for decision-making aimed at optimizing both operations and business economics.
Sufficient grid capacity is essential for business development and green transition. In Northern Jutland, energy projects have been forced to hit pause because the grid capacity is under pressure. This makes it more relevant than ever to make the best possible use of existing capacity until grid expansion catches up.
Result from the EFFORT project demonstrate how intelligent use of energy data can help companies optimise consumption and reduce energy costs while at the same time contributing to a more flexible use of the electricity grid.
Concrete benefits for both local businesses and power grid
Documented outcomes include:
- Up to 36% savings for participating companies
- Reduced peak load on the electricity grid
- Optimised use of renewable energy
By optimising energy consumption and shifting demand away from peak periods, companies can make far more efficient use of grid capacity. At the same time, this strengthens their competitiveness and supports more climate-friendly operations.
Access to detailed data has, for example, enabled Hirtshals Stevedore to gain a clear understanding of how their electricity consumption relates to operational activity, leading to the implementation of time-based control of their refrigeration systems.
Expanding participation
The learnings from EFFORT demonstrate that smarter energy management is not just a theoretical concept, but a practical solution that is already delivering tangible benefits today.
Work is now underway to roll out a digital energy tool to companies in Hirtshals, enabling even more businesses to gain insight into their energy consumption and achieve both financial and environmental benefits.
